For hikers and mountaineers, the region around Kössen and Walchsee offers an impressive variety of experiences all year round - but especially in the summer months. With over 200 km of marked hiking trails in the villages of Kössen, Walchsee, Schwendt and Rettenschöss, there is something for everyone - from easy walks to challenging tours and via ferratas.

Hiking tips:

The hiking trails in the Zahmer Kaiser or the smugglers' trail to the Klobenstein pilgrimage church in Kössen are particularly attractive, where you will also discover the legendary stone that gave this place of power in the Alps its name. Rustic huts and mountain pastures along the way invite you to take a leisurely break.

Another highlight is the Kaiserbachtal nature reserve, which not only impresses with its imposing view of the Kaiser Mountains, but also with its secluded tranquillity. You can safely switch off your cell phone here, as there is hardly any reception - ideal for enjoying nature completely undisturbed.

Kössen's local mountain, the Unterberg, is also ideal for hiking. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, the gondola lift takes you directly to the Bärenhütte, from where various hiking trails start, for example to the summit cross.

The region offers around 180 kilometers of signposted cycle paths and 125 kilometers of mountain bike trails that will delight every cycling holidaymaker.

The tour suggestions on kaiserwinkl.com and the panoramic map, which you can obtain on site, provide inspiration. A highlight for cyclists is the 12th stage of the Mozart Cycle Path, which winds its way through Kössen and leads through the whole of Salzburger Land all the way to Tyrol - a unique experience for anyone planning a longer tour.

A special highlight in summer is the new Kaiser Pleasure Cycle Tour, which leads around 80 kilometers around the impressive Kaiser Mountains. Idyllic nature, breathtaking panoramas and well-developed, signposted cycle paths await you here. Whether on mountain roads with little traffic or along idyllic lakes - this route offers cycling fun for all levels. There are also numerous service stations along the special routes for e-bike riders.

You can hire bikes and e-bikes directly in the region(e.g. from Intersport Planer at the Unterbergbahn HochKössen valley station), and after an active day in the great outdoors you can relax in our wellness area. Lake Walchsee is waiting for you

Walchsee is one of the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol and delights visitors with its pleasant water temperatures of up to 24 degrees and excellent water quality. The 100-hectare lake invites you to take a refreshing dip in the cool water on several shore areas and the lake promenade. Popular swimming spots include the lakeside promenade, the southern bathing meadow, the Baltic shore, the Seemühle and the lido.

For active water sports enthusiasts, it's "cast off" at the boat hire on the lakeside promenade, where you can hire pedal boats, electric boats and stand-up paddleboards - ideal for an active day on Lake Walchsee in summer. Families with children will love the Aqua Fun Park on the shores of the lake, which offers slides and trampolines. Dog owners can also rejoice: since 2016 there has been a dedicated dog bathing area at Walchsee, which ensures carefree bathing fun with your four-legged friend.

Second largest Gulf region in Austria

Golfing in Kaiserwinkl

Kaiserwinkl is one of the best addresses for golf lovers and is considered the second largest golf region in Austria. With two 18-hole and one 9-hole golf course within a 15-minute drive, the region offers an excellent selection for every level. The Kaiserwinkl Golf Club is particularly conveniently located - just 1.5 kilometers from the Hotel Riedl and therefore only a few minutes away by car. Here you can play on a picturesquely situated course with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

In addition to the Kaiserwinkl Golf Club in Kössen, you can also visit the Walchsee-Moarhof Golf Club (18-hole) and the 9-hole course at the Reit im Winkl-Kössen Golf Club. These courses not only offer a sporting challenge, but also breathtaking views of the Tyrolean mountain landscape, which makes golfing in Kaiserwinkl a very special experience.

Paragliding and ballooning in Kössen

Experience the Kaiserwinkl from a bird's eye view

Paragliders, paragliders and tandem pilots experience the region from a completely different perspective: flying is so popular here due to the excellent thermals - Kössen is considered a global hotspot for aviation sports. Thousands of "high-flyers" take off from the Unterberg every year - either by paraglider or tandem. The greater distance to the main Alpine ridge makes the Unterberg a more sheltered launch site and therefore ideal for flying. The ascent is child's play with the Unterbergbahn HochKössen cable car. And in Kössen there are no take-off and landing fees. (Subject to change).

Ballooning reaches its peak in Kössen in winter during the "International Ballooning Week".
